What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are small, screw-shaped titanium posts that are surgically placed within the jawbone. They restore the root structure of teeth, acting as a strong, unwavering foundation for a dental crown or bridge to be attached to. Because of this unique setup, the results that they provide exceed all other tooth replacement options, allowing you to regain a smile that is both attractive and extremely strong.

The 4-Step Dental Implant Process

  • Dental Implant Consultation: Attending a consultation with Dr. Alani is the first step on your journey. During your visit, our team will capture a cone beam CT scan of your facial structure, speak with you about your medical and oral health histories, and help determine whether dental implants are right for you. If so, we’ll create and discuss a treatment plan that we will make just for you.
  • Placement: Next, Dr. Alani will place the dental implants that will anchor your restoration. This surgical procedure is minimally invasive and done with local anesthetic, allowing for a comfortable and efficient experience.
  • Healing & Osseointegration: Following your surgery, you will undergo a period of recovery and osseointegration, which is when your implants will naturally fuse with your jawbone. This typically takes between three and six months. Once complete, you will return to our office so we can secure small metal connector pieces, called abutments, to the top of the implants.
  • Restoration: After we have received your custom restoration from our dental lab, we will call you back in to attach it to your implants and complete your smile!

Benefits of Dental Implants

When you invest in dental implants, you’re investing in a better quality of life, as well as these one-of-a-kind benefits:

  • Results that can last for 20+ years with simple maintenance and oral hygiene practices.
  • Can restore up to 80% of your natural bite power, allowing you to eat a greater variety of foods.
  • Boosted confidence with enhanced eating and speaking abilities.
  • No need to alter your natural teeth, as your restoration will be anchored to surgically placed implants instead.

Who Dental Implants Can Help

We typically recommend dental implants for two types of patients. The first want to replace their missing teeth with a solution they trust will stand the test of time and make their everyday life easier and more comfortable. The second is someone with a traditional dental bridge that is unstable, unattractive, or both. In either case, implants offer a long-lasting solution that allows someone to eat, speak, and smile without having to think about their teeth.
